This is weird.
It’s not often that historical rivalries are put on ice but last night was one such occasion. Liverpool fans joined their Manchester United counterparts in shaking their head and sighing in disbelief, when Christian Eriksen gave Spurs the lead within eleven seconds.
Whether they then joined in with Red Devil supporters by holding their faces into a pillow and screaming repeatedly as Phil Jones doubled Tottenham’s advantage with a poacher’s finish into his own net, is unknown.
The 2-0 win over United at Wembley moved Spurs to within two points of Liverpool in the table, as both clubs chase Champions League qualification come the end of the season.
Had United won, the gap would have been five points, and things would have been looking slightly rosier for Jurgen Klopp’s men, who play Tottenham at Anfield this Sunday.
Instead, they just had one more reason to have a go at their old rivals.
Some things will never change.

Wanted United to win ONE GAME, and they do this shite

I honestly wish United would’ve won last night

Spurs are 2 points behind us if they win at the weekend we’re out the top 4. If yous had won we’d have a 5 point gap between us and them.

I actually wanted United to win tonight, because that would most benefit us. So of course, they concede inside 15 seconds. The scruffy gang of twats.

Actually wanted United to win for once the useless scum

Utd couldn't win against Spurs, now at least a draw for against them in next week. #LFC

Yeah, hopefully it works out. Thank god we have the 8 point gap over Arsenal! I was actually hoping United wouldn’t have lost to Spurs man! Need that gap too!

Hmmm. That spurs win is great for our chase for 2nd place. Not so great for our chase for top 4 though 😄 #LFC

Wanted a draw so we'd stay on United's heels and keep a decent gap between ourselves and Spurs. But Chelsea losing at home to Bournemouth has made up for any disappointment with the other result.
