Troy Deeney is likely to face punishment for his celebration against Chelsea on Monday night.
The 29-year-old gave Watford a first half lead from the penalty spot at Vicarage Road, sending them on their way to an impressive 4-1 hammering of Antonio Conte’s men.
Deeney, who only had three goals to his name this season prior to the Chelsea game, had been jeered by the away supporters behind the goal as he prepared to take the spot kick. Having sent it beyond Thibaut Courtois, Deeney appeared to aim both middle fingers at the Chelsea support as he ran away to celebrate.
Deeney’s goal remained the difference between the two sides until eight minutes from the end of regulation time. Eden Hazard’s strike appeared to have salvaged something for ten-man Chelsea, only for Watford to hit back with goals from Daryl Janmaat, Gerard Deulofeu and Roberto Pereyra.
The result puts huge pressure on Antonio Conte, with Chelsea’s spot in the top four now in serious jeopardy with Tottenham only a point behind them. With some reports prior to the game suggesting Chelsea had to win the game to save their manager’s job, it’s little wonder that some are already speculating on who might be about to replace the Italian.
