Here we go again.
Yes, one transfer window may only just have closed, but let’s not be fooled into thinking this means people aren’t already excitedly looking ahead to the next one.
Take Sky Sports Italia, for example, who have some news that’s of particular interest for Manchester United supporters.
According to them, AS Monaco’s Brazilian international Fabinho could finally get his move to Old Trafford, after seemingly being linked with them since the early stages of foetal development (probably only a year or so, really).
With the rest of the continent’s wealthiest football clubs not quite finished with signing every single player to have represented Monaco during last season – a campaign which saw them win the French league and embark on an exciting Champions League run – it’s claimed United are ‘closing in’ on a deal for Fabinho.
The 24-year-old, who can operate as a defensive midfielder or wing-back, is reportedly the subject of talks between the two clubs with United thought to be keen to take him to Manchester for a fee of £45m. It’s thought they hope to get the deal signed off soon with a view to him joining in summer.
As ever though, getting their man isn’t expected to be too straightforward. Paris Saint-Germain, who came very close to signing Fabinho last summer, are also believed to be sniffing around again and could prove to be rivals for his signature.
Given what Jose Mourinho’s said to the press last week regarding his transfer policy, a potential move for Fabinho is perhaps not the worst idea in the world. Antonio Valencia, United’s current first-choice right back, turns 33 in the summer and it’s believed Mourinho would still like to strengthen his midfield options. Fabinho could help out in both departments.
