Richard Madeley, God love him, is a national treasure. Let’s make that clear from the start.
With this in mind, it was understandable that there was a great deal of excitement at the news that he was stepping in for Piers Morgan on Good Morning Britain this week.

After his memorable (and presumably unintentional) Alan Partridge-esque segment on the dangers of quicksand not so long ago, the 61-year-old returned on Thursday with an anecdotal tale of the time Noel and Liam Gallagher burgled his house. No, really.
According to him, the former Oasis members broke into his house – or at least he thinks they did – when he and wife Judy Finnigan lived in Manchester. Quite the claim, eh?
“‘He and his brother used to live quite close to us when we used to live in Manchester,” Madeley said of Liam.
“They admitted in the early stages of their career they did a bit of robbery and we think they did our house.
“I spoke to them about it, and we spoke about it. It was many years ago and they’ve probably forgotten about it now and they said “yeah I think we did that one yeah, I think we did that one, went in through the window yeah”.”
Perhaps the key line Madeley’s recount is “it was many years ago and they’ve probably forgotten about it now”…
