Gabriel’s ban overturned ahead of North London derby

Finally some good news

Kevin Beirne

Arsene Wenger has finally received some good news after a dreadful week.

His team lost to Dinamo Zagreb in the Champions League and London rivals Chelsea in the Premier League, with the Gunners seeing three players dismissed across the two matches.

But now the Football Association have announced that one of the players to see red, centre-back Gabriel, will not face a ban for his sending-off.

‘Arsenal’s claim of wrongful dismissal in relation to Gabriel has been upheld following an Independent Regulatory Commission hearing,’ a statement from the FA reads.

‘The player’s three-match suspension has, therefore, been withdrawn with immediate effect.’

This means Gabriel is available for selection ahead of the League Cup meeting with North London rivals Tottenham.

Still, the Brazilian is not fully in the clear. He also faces a separate charge of improper conduct following his clash with Chelsea striker Diego Costa, and has until 6pm on Thursday to make an appeal.

But that means that the Brazilian defender will definitely be available for selection for the League Cup tie at White Hart Lane.
