After a very long flight it has touched down at Heathrow.
The first ever non-stop flight from Australia to the UK has touched down after 17 hours. The journey covered 9,050 miles in total and landed at 5.02am this morning.
Qantas flight 9 from Perth, capital of Western Australia, landed at Heathrow after flying over the Indian Ocean, Sri Lanka, the southern tip of India, Oman, the UAE, Iran, Turkey, Bulgaria, Romania, Austria, Germany, the Netherlands and Belgium.
It is the UK’s longest non-stop regular passenger flight and will set off back to Perth at 1.15pm on Sunday. The new link is three hours quicker than routes which stop in the Middle East to refuel.
Its route is 24% further than the UK’s previous longest service, which flew 7,275 miles, between Heathrow and Jakarta.
