Liverpool fans shocked by Roy Keane’s comments after Man City win

Robert Redmond

“Great team performance.”

Liverpool are on course for the semi-finals of the Champions League after a stunning victory over Manchester City on Wednesday night. By half-time of the first-leg of their quarter-finals, Jurgen Klopp’s side had raced into a three-goal lead thanks to goals from Mohamed Salah, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Sadio Mane.

City have had a brilliant season, but they didn’t even manage a shot on target as their opponents suffocated their attempts to play in a frantic first-half.

Following the match, Klopp was quick to play down any suggestion that his side already have one foot in the semi-finals of the tournament. However, it would require a dramatic collapse for City to get three goals back at the Etihad on Tuesday.

Liverpool’s performance, particularly in the opening 45 minutes, was so impressive that even Roy Keane praised them.

The former Manchester United captain hasn’t always had nice things to say about Klopp’s side. Earlier this season, Keane claimed that Liverpool were “drifting”, “going nowhere fast” and that he wouldn’t watch them play if they were out his back garden.

However, Roy has changed his tune and was full of praise for their display against City.

“We’ve seen it previously that Liverpool have players that can hurt Manchester City on the counter-attack and they got heavily punished tonight. Liverpool, from a team performance, were outstanding. I thought the three players in midfield were outstanding as well. I thought Milner, Henderson,  Oxlade-Chamberlain gave them that foundation to go on and win the game. I bet you Liverpool can’t believe their luck to be 3-0 up. Okay, it will be a tough second leg, but Liverpool will still fancy themselves to get an away goal and then the tie will be over.”

Some Liverpool supporters were shocked by Keane’s praise.
