They'll have to wait a little while longer

A win over United in the Manchester Derby on Saturday evening would’ve clinched the title that’s been all but mathematically City’s for a good while now. However, despite being 2-0 to the good and seemingly cruising at half-time, a memorable United fightback ensured Pep Guardiola’s side would have to wait a good while longer for their coronation.

Two goals from Paul Pogba levelled the scores, with Chris Smalling adding what proved to be the game’s decisive goal with little over 20 minutes left.

United’s supporters were understandably delighted at the Derby victory – not least because it denied their rivals the extremely rare opportunity to celebrate sealing their now-inevitable league success against them.

City, as you’d expect, had clearly planned to put on a bit of a party. Not only had fans taken part in a pre-kick off mosaic, it’s now emerged that The Etihad Stadium had been rigged up for a special celebratory fireworks display to mark a victory for the home team.

United fans have gleefully been sharing images of a since-deleted Facebook post from The Silverback Event Crew – showing the company preparing the pyrotechnics display on the roof of stadium roof.

City fans will have to wait a little longer for their fireworks display.
