Bayern Munich ended a ridiculous run with their 5-0 Champions League win

Tom Victor

There’s going out with a bang, and then there’s this.

Croatian champions Dinamo Zagreb were no match for Bayern Munich in their Champions League meeting, with the in-form Robert Lewandowski scoring a hat-trick in the Germans’ 5-0 win.

But the result brought to an end a phenomenal unbeaten run for Dinamo.

We’d wager that Croatia’s top flight is possibly a little less competitive than the Premier League or Bundesliga, but it’s still a remarkable feat from the team that saw off 10-man Arsenal on matchday one.

They had avoided defeat in the first 19 games of the current campaign – sitting three points clear in the league after 11 games and brushing aside three opponents in the Champions League qualifying round (though they had a scare against Molde before progressing on away goals).

Incredibly they haven’t lost a domestic league game since May 2014, while their last defeat to any team came against Astra Giurgiu last November. That’s not bad by anyone’s standards.
