No more having to use text speak to make that tweet fit.
Twitter users may soon no longer have to abide by the 140-character limit when sending tweets, as the company are reportedly preparing a new product that will allow for longer posts.
The character limit has been one of the fundamental aspects of Twitter since its inception and indeed its brevity appealed to many users as an alternative to longer posts on other social media applications, like Facebook.
According to Recode, Twitter are preparing a product that would enable users to publish longer-form content to the site, which they have been previously able to do via applications such as TwitLonger and OneShot.
Current Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey is said to be open to the move, with the reports emerging shortly after Twitter extended the character limit for Direct Messages earlier this year.
“People have been very precious at Twitter about what Twitter can be and how much it can be evolved,” one current senior employee is quoted as saying on Recode.
“Having Jack come in and say it’s okay makes all the difference in the world.”
Those days of having to rejig a great tweet because you missed out by one character might soon be a thing of the past, but at what cost?
