Masterchef contestant dies after collapsing during London Marathon

The race was being run in record temperatures when Campbell collapsed.

Former Masterchef contestant Matt Campbell has died after he collapsed during the London Marathon on Sunday.

The 29-year-old chef collapsed at the 22.5-mile mark during the race, which was being run in record temperatures of 23.5 degrees Celsius.

He received medical treatment on the scene, but was later pronounced dead in hospital.

Campbell, from the Lake District in England, had appeared on Masterchef: The Professionals 2017, during which time he brought attention to his Nutritional Gastronomy movement.

In response to the news, London Marathon issued a statement saying: “Everyone involved in the organisation of the London Marathon would like to express our sincere condolences to Matt’s family and friends.

“No further details will be released and the family has asked for privacy. The exact cause of death will be established by later medical examination.”
