Roma name their asking price for goalkeeper Alisson

Liverpool desperately need a new goalkeeper

He won’t be cheap

It’s no secret that Liverpool need a goalkeeper. Neither Loris Karius and Simon Mignolet have been convincing enough to warrant the number 1 shirt at Anfield, and Karius’ nightmare in the Champions League final confirmed that a new goalkeeper must be their top priority.

The Reds have been linked with Roma goalkeeper Alisson for a few months now, and fresh reports suggest the move could be on if Liverpool are willing to meet Roma’s asking price of £79m.

It would be a world record fee for a goalkeeper, but if he performs as well as he has shown he can at the Stadio Olimpico, it would probably be a worthwhile investment.

In the same way that Virgil van Dijk has had a calming influence on Liverpool’s defence, Jürgen Klopp would hope that Alisson would improve the team in a similar fashion. It’s no surprise that Klopp is a big fan of the keeper given his excellent reflexes and quick distribution.

Alisson will be competing with Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson for a starting spot in Brazil’s team at this summer’s World Cup, giving coach Tite a bit of a selection headache. It’s a nice problem for the Seleçao to have, though.
