This is absolutely terrifying.
Usually, when people become rich and famous, their days of doing tedious things like jumping out of planes are behind them. Not Tom Cruise.
Cruise, who is now 55, has always taken great pleasure in doing his own stunts — and while filming the upcoming Mission: Impossible Fallout, he has taken that to the next level.
A video was released today showing Cruise executing a “HALO (High Altitude Low Oxygen) jump,” a military jump-out at 25,000ft above ground from a moving plane, usually used by militaries for parachuting into enemy territory.
The dangers associated with a jump like that include hypoxia, the bends, as well as serious psychological effects. Cruise had to spend 20 minutes inhaling oxygen at ground-level before getting into the plane, in order to avoid decompression sickness.
Adding to the challenge is the fact that Cruise is falling at 200 miles an hour, and has to position himself so that he lands exactly three feet away from the camera.
Mission: Impossible Fallout, which was directed by Christopher McQuarrie, it set to be released on July 27.
