Steven Gerrard has returned to his former club for reinforcements.

After being confirmed as Rangers manager last month, Gerrard was linked with moves for several ex-teammates and current Liverpool youngsters.

He got down to work quickly in the transfer department by bringing in the trio of Scott Arfield, Allan McGregor and Jamie Murphy but he’s finally managed to secure a loan move for one of his top targets from Anfield.

Liverpool midfielder Ovie Ejaria has become the latest part of Gerrard’s Gers project after joining on loan from the Reds, according to a report in the Evening Times.

Ejaria, 20, made eight senior appearances for Liverpool before he was sent out on loan to Sunderland in January of this year for experience.

The England U21 midfielder scored one goal in 11 appearances for the Black Cats but was unable to save them from relegation to League One.

It’s understood that Jurgen Klopp expects huge things of Ejaria but, given his relationship with Gerrard, the Liverpool manager was happy to allow the youngster to further develop in Glasgow.

Rangers are also said to be in talks with Brighton defender Connor Goldson, having reportedly agreed a £3 million fee for the centre-half.

The Daily Record has reported that Goldson is now set for discussions with Ibrox chiefs ahead of a medical.
