Emergency services were called to the scene of the incident around 4am
Around 60 firefighters were called to a blaze in south London in the early hours of the morning after a fire broke out at a 20-storey tower block.
The blaze is believed to have broken out in a flat on the 12th floor of the building in Lewisham at around 4am, with around 180 residents evacuated.
A total of eight fire engines were sent to the scene in Elmira Street, near Prendergast Vale school, the London Fire Brigade said.
The cause of the fire is not yet known.
Lewisham MPS tweeted: “The fire is out and we are looking to open the road ASAP.”
In a statement, London Fire Brigade said: “A sprinkler system activated and suppressed the fire.
“The Brigade’s 999 Control Officers took 16 calls to the fire.
The statement added: “The cause of the fire is under investigation.”
