We’re sorry to be the bearers of bad news but that incredible Harry Maguire tweet is not real.
Shortly after Maguire opened the scoring in England’s World Cup quarter-final with Sweden with a thunderous header, what appeared to be an old tweet from the defender did the rounds online.
The social media post, attributed to Maguire’s Twitter account, seemed so fitting as it seemed to foreshadow the centre-half’s goal against Sweden all the way back in 2016 and it quickly gathered momentum.
But, alas, it is not genuine.

Like the spoilsports we are, we took a gander at Maguire’s Twitter page and discovered that he didn’t join the social networking service until last June, meaning he couldn’t possibly have declared vengeance against the country of Sweden in June, 2016.
If that’s not enough to prove that the tweet is a fake, take a look at the defender’s profile picture in the 2016 post.
Maguire is pictured wearing his Leicester kit when, in fact, he didn’t join the Foxes until last summer.
We wanted the tweet to be real just as much as you did because how bloody perfect would it have been for a young Hull defender who had yet to receive his first England call-up to predict his revenge against Sweden?
But, unfortunately, that’s not the case.
