He has issued an apology over the video
Dan Harmon, the co-creator of Rick and Morty, has deleted his Twitter account and issued an apology after a sketch he created almost a decade ago resurfaced online.
In the graphic sketch, filmed in 2009, Hannon plays a therapist who repeatedly molests babies. The clip was intended as a parody of the Showtime series Dexter.
The sketch originally aired at the film festival Channel 101, but resurfaced this weekend after it was posted to 4Chan and alt-right subreddit r/The_Donald.
In the video, Harmon (playing a doctor) prescribes a new father sleeping pills, before climbing through a window, taking down his pants, and rubbing his genitals on a plastic baby doll.
“In 2009, I made a ‘pilot’ which strove to parody the series Dexter and only succeeded in offending,” said Harmon responding to the social media backlash.
“I quickly realized the content was way too distasteful and took the video down immediately. Nobody should ever have to see what you saw and for that, I sincerely apologize.”
Rick And Morty broadcaster Adult Swim added: “The offensive content of Dan’s 2009 video that recently surfaced demonstrates poor judgement and does not reflect the type of content we seek out.
“Dan recognized his mistake at the time and has apologized. He understands there is no place for this type of content here at Adult Swim.”
