Three months. It’s been nearly three months, FFS.
And yet here we are, still banging on about what happened between Sergio Ramos and Mo Salah in the Champions League final.
For those of you that have spent your summer under a rock, let us bring you up to speed… Salah tangled with Ramos shortly before the half-hour mark of the game in Kiev. Having landed awkwardly, the Egyptian soon had to leave the game through injury. Liverpool went on to lose the game 3-1, many of their fans suggesting Ramos had intentionally set out to hurt their star man.
As a result of their win over Liverpool, Real will now take on city rivals Atletico Madrid – last season’s Europa League winners – in the European Super Cup on Wednesday.
Speaking ahead of the game in Tallinn, Ramos was again asked about the incident with Salah – more specifically Jurgen Klopp’s recent criticism of his performance that night. The Spain defender again insisted that he had not set out to hurt his opponent, also using the opportunity to point out Klopp’s poor record in finals.
“I have no intention of hurting a player deliberately,” he said. “He [Klopp] will be wanting to explain not winning the final, but it’s not the first that he has lost.”
Although Ramos remained straight-faced as he made the comment, the same could not be said of teammate Marcelo, who sat beside him for the press conference. Much to the amusement of many who have since seen the video below, the Brazilian international can’t help but smirk as the centre-half points out Klopp’s record in finals.

Klopp has reached a total of seven finals as a manager – four with Borussia Dortmund and three with Liverpool. His only victory came in 2012, when his Dortmund side defeated Bayern Munich 5-2 to win the German Cup.
