Louis van Gaal wasn’t happy during his press conference ahead of Saturday’s clash with Everton.
He clearly had far too long to stew over what went wrong in his side’s defeat to Arsenal prior to the international break – and cook up some reasons for the poor performance.
Without making a meal of it, he blamed amongst other things: The preparation for the game (giving his players a day off); the journey to the game (plane instead of train); and a poor start (he suggested United were a little undercooked).
When asked whether the blame for the defeat should be shared between the coaching and playing staff, he agreed. But then he also lumped poor Mike from the canteen into the mix.
“Of course it is not only the players, it is also the staff and all the members of the staff – and also my cook Mike,” Van Gaal explained. “Because he has a big influence in the atmosphere in the canteen. So a lot of people are also important in this.”
Whether the Van Gaal, the players and Mike can up their game against Everton remains to be seen. One thing’s for sure – anything less than a five star performance and they’ll be getting their just desserts.
