Germany win the right to host Euro 2024

Germany will host the European Championships of 2024, it has been announced

Germany were awarded the right to host the competition ahead of Turkey, who had submitted a rival bid.

Both bidding teams had submitted their final presentations to UEFA in Nyon on Thursday morning. A vote amongst members of the governing body’s executive committee then took place, deciding that Germany should stage the tournament.

The country last staged the European Championships in 1988. Since then, they have also hosted the 2006 World Cup finals. They are likely to use many of the stadiums that were constructed or improved for that tournament for the 2024 competition, with the final likely to take place in Berlin’s iconic Olimpiastadion.

Germany stated in their bid that they intended to use  the tournament to help build bridges between grassroots football and the elite game.
