Richard Keys sees Andy Gray’s suggestion for new Man United manager and raises him

Jason McAteer's reaction said it all

Richard Keys will not be outdone.

Andy Gray astounded his broadcasting soulmate, Keys, with his suggestion for Jose Mourinho’s successor at Old Trafford when the subject was brought up last month.

Gray claimed that Belgium boss Roberto Martinez was the perfect candidate to replace the under-fire Manchester United manager and Keys was left dumbfounded.

With more pressure mounting on Mourinho this weekend, the conversation turned yet again to who ought to take over at the Red Devils on beINSPORTS’ coverage of United’s defeat to West Ham.

It was Keys’ turn this time to put forward a case for an unexpected candidate and he didn’t disappoint.

“Arsene Wenger, for some reason, hasn’t had a mention but he is available and might just be a short-term fix” Keys started.

After Gray and guest pundit, Jason McAteer, went back and forth on why Wenger would even be considered, Keys ventured outside the box yet again.

Keys continued: “I’ll give you another one that I don’t think anyone’s considered. Laurent Blanc.”

Cue five seconds of stunned silence from McAteer before he simply asked: “Why?”

“Because he knows Manchester United, because he’s managed a top club in Paris and because he’s available,” Keys answered.

With United fans’ faith in the club at an all-time low, a risky appointment would almost certainly go down like a lead balloon.
