It was quite the night for Steve Bruce
The Aston Villa manager watched his side take a two-goal lead at home to Preston North End in the Championship on Tuesday before seeing James Chester sent off and witnessing the away side take a 3-2 lead.
It was a bad night for Bruce and the Villa as it stood and it only got worse when – after Villa equalised – Glenn Whelan was handed penalty duties late on and subsequently missed entirely. The game finished 3-3 and Villa’s disappointing season remains disappointing, and Steve Bruce’s side remain in the bottom half of the table.
As exciting as the game was though, the best action was seen on the sideline, where a disgruntled Villa fan decided he had seen enough before launching a cabbage onto the pitch in the way one might chuck a car battery into the sea.
Either way, here is the cabbage, looking wonderful under the claret glow of the Villa Park hoardings.

To make things better, Steve Bruce then went on to confirm that the cabbage was thrown at him, before saying that it was “hugely disrespectful”. We are as yet unaware whether it was the fact that it was a cabbage that made it disrespectful, or whether the fact that it was an object thrown at him that made it disrespectful.
Perhaps it would have been better if it had been a parsnip, a plum or an apricot.
Perhaps we’ll never know. But what we do know is that Steve Bruce had a cabbage thrown at him.
