England’s 3-2 win over Spain on Monday evening was La Roja’s first defeat on home soil since 2003
Days on from their dull 0-0 draw with Croatia in Rijeka, Gareth Southgate’s side established a 3-0 lead in the first half of the game in Seville, Raheem Sterling scoring twice either side of a goal for Marcus Rashford. Though goals from Paco Alcacer and Sergio Ramos (with the last touch of the game) reduced the deficit, England were able to claim a memorable win.
Liverpool’s Jordan Henderson missed the game due to the yellow card he picked up against Croatia but opted to stay with the England team instead of making a premature return to Merseyside.
As posts made on the 28-year-old’s Instagram make clear, Henderson watched the game alongside fans in Real Betis’Â Estadio Benito VillamarÃn.

As well as posting a video of the English national anthem, Henderson also shared the immediate aftermath of one of Sterling’s goals on his Instagram Story.
England’s win in Seville means they are now second in their Nations League group on four points. Spain are top after winning the corresponding fixture at Wembley last month, while Croatia are bottom of the group with one point. The World Cup finalists had failed to win all three of their games since returning from Russia but beat Jordan 2-1 in a friendly on Monday evening.
Croatia will play England at Wembley next month in the final international break of the year.
