He has options
Jose Mourinho has reportedly rejected the chance to become the new Benfica manager.
The Portuguese side are currently in fourth place in the league after 15 games, seven points behind FC Porto at the top of the table.
Mourinho started his career in management with Benfica when he took charge of the club for a brief spell in 2000. He resigned after just 11 games.
According to a report in The Times by Duncan Castles, a journalist with sources close to Mourinho, the former Chelsea coach has no interest in working in Portuguese football and he rejected the offer from Benfica.
Mourinho has been out of work for less than a month, having been sacked by Manchester United following a 3-1 defeat to Liverpool at Anfield on December 16.
He is said to be seeking an opportunity with a team in a more prestigious league and two of his former clubs – Inter Milan and Real Madrid – are said to be interested.
Madrid president Florentino Perez remains a fan of his former coach despite his tumultuous time at the club and is said to be seeking a disciplinarian manager as he attempts to overhaul the squad.
The report claims that Mourinho does not like being out of work and has previously attempted to make immediate returns to management.
He was close to becoming the England manager in 2007 after leaving Chelsea the first time but opted against it.
Mourinho also reportedly turned down the chance to become Man United manager in the winter of 2015. He is unlikely to move into international management.
