Spurs injury crisis deepens with Dele Alli out for two months

Dele Alli has become the latest key player to be made unavailable for selection at Tottenham Hotspur after the club confirmed he will be out until March.

In the second half of Sunday’s win over Fulham, the midfielder was forced off with a hamstring knock that has turned out to be as serious as first feared.

“Following scans and clinical assessment, we can confirm that Alli has suffered a hamstring strain,” read an official club statement on the injury.

“Dele will now undergo a period of rehabilitation with our medical staff, with the expectation of returning to training in early March.”

Alli now joins Harry Kane and Moussa Sissoko on the sidelines, who are suffering from ankle and groin problems respectively, while winger Son Heung-min isn’t due to return until February while away at the Asia Cup with South Korea.

Lucas Moura is nearing a return from a knee problem and could feature versus Chelsea in the Carabao Cup semi-final second leg on Thursday night, with Andy Carroll one rumoured reinforcement should Spurs look to the January transfer market.

However, manager Mauricio Pochettino told reporters on the weekend that bringing in a new forward is not on his agenda despite a deepening injury crisis and a lack of signings made in the summer.

“Some injuries appear in a period with a more busy schedule and another opportunity opens the door for players not consistently in the starting XI or on the bench,” the Argentine said.

“It is a great opportunity for different players to show quality.”
