One way to avoid the incessant stream of questions aimed at Ole Gunnar Solskjaer about becoming permanent Manchester United manager is to just confirm it now
There will be a riot in Manchester if Solskjaer’s turnaround isn’t rewarded with the permanent position and Gary Neville is just one of many former teammates of Solskjaer’s who believes it is a foregone conclusion.
Wednesday night’s Champions League round of 16 victory over Paris Saint-Germain made it even more of an inevitability and Neville’s post-match interview with Solskjaer spoke for most supporters.
“Ole Gunnar, I’ve got three very quick questions for you,” Neville said after United became the first side to overturn a 2-0 home deficit in a Champions League knockout game.
✍️ How long would you like on your contract?
💷 What do you want your salary to be?
🗿 Where would you like your statue?@GNev2 puts the big questions to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer!https://t.co/0OKMYBJ8Ca#beINUCL #UCL #MUFC #PSGMUN pic.twitter.com/drUsFRfbao— beIN SPORTS (@beINSPORTS_EN) March 6, 2019
- “How long you would you like on your contract?
- “What would your salary be?
- “And where would you like the statue?”
The fact that Solskjaer refuses to get carried away with the fanfare only serves to endear him more to his adoring fans and the Norwegian is fully aware of the fact that football management is a fickle game.
All it takes is a few bad results for everything to change and Solskjaer is just determined to keep taking every game as it comes and allow his beloved club to arrive at its own decision.
“What a fantastic night,” Solskjaer answered.
“I’m just going to do my best until the summer and see what the club decides.”
