The special kit features inspirational women from history
A new jersey commemorating famous women from Camden and the surrounding areas will be worn by Camden Town FC, the local women’s football team, for International Women’s Day.
Described as a football kit which is also a work of art, the kit marks the beginning of Camden Town Brewery’s Seasonal Design Collaboration with designer Bodil Jane for 2019.
The jersey features four women – sculptor Dame Barbara Hepworth DBE, writer Sylvia Plath, author Buchi Emecheta OBE and intellectual and suffragist Dame Millicent Fawcett GBE – all of whom lived or worked around Camden at different times in their lives.
The kit features the women in a four-panel design which is reminiscent in style of jerseys worn in the past by French rugby club Stade Francais, who have previously featured significant figures from Paris, as well as former players, on their kits.
As part of the campaign for International Women’s Day 2019, Camden Town Brewery will also be donating all profits from their Brewery Bar during the week of IWD 2019 (ending 10 March 2019) to to The Fawcett Society, which was inspired by suffragist Millicent Fawcett.
The shirt will be available to purchase from the Brewery Bar, which is located between Chalk Farm and Kentish Town tube stations in London.
