Mo Salah scores long range stunner to send Anfield into hysterics

Wayne Farry

A goal worthy of winning a title

Mohamed Salah is a wonderful footballer and on Sunday he proved yet again that he is a man for the big occasion, as he scored Liverpool’s second against Chelsea with a wonderful long range shot at Anfield.

Sadio Mane had got the Reds’ first with a neat header after a lovely Jordan Henderson cross, but it was Salah’s goal – mere minutes after the first – that grabbed the headlines and sent Anfield and the internet into delirium.

No one doubts Salah’s quality but he has at times this season looked less explosive and instinctive than he did last year. His touch has been off and his decision-making sometimes poor, despite his impressive goal tally this season.

On Sunday in the 52nd minute, he showed every bit of class and ruthlessness that made him English football’s most impressive player last season.

Receiving the ball on the right wing, the Egyptian cut in onto his left foot. Perhaps expecting him to come close to goal, the Chelsea defence stood off, and Salah duly took advantage.

Taking a cursory glance at the top corner he unleashed a stunning strike which curled in the air and flew past the hapless Kepa.

It was a goal worthy of winning any game, and potentially a title.
