What if Looper starred Will Smith and Will Smith?
If you are going to make a film when old Will Smith fights a young Will Smith, you would definitely use this as an opportunity to digitally insert clips from The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air into it, right? That would be the best film ever.
Instead, the makers of upcoming sci-fi movie Gemini Man have been really boring, and just used state of the art digital de-ageing to make Will Smith look young. This technology is very impressive – as anyone who has seen Captain Marvel, where Samuel L Jackson is made to look 30 years younger, will tell you.
But come on, how cool would using clips from his old movies have been? If not Fresh Prince, at least Men In Black, or Independence Day.
Or if nothing else, get Jaden Smith to play him.
Here is the trailer:
Yes, it does look a lot like Looper.
The official synopsis reads:
Gemini Man is an innovative action-thriller starring Will Smith as Henry Brogan, an elite assassin, who is suddenly targeted and pursued by a mysterious young operative that seemingly can predict his every move.

It is directed by Oscar winner Ang Lee, the man behind Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon, Life of Pi and Brokeback Mountain, so you would think that is going to be more than just a basic sci-fi thriller. Then again, it is produced by Jerry Bruckheimer, the king of the average sci-fi action movie, so we’ll have to wait and see.
Mary Elizabeth Winstead, Clive Owen and Benedict Wong also star.
Gemini Man is out October 11th.
