He is costing the club £500,000 per week, including bonuses
Alexis Sanchez’s dismal spell at Manchester United is set to come to a premature end this summer following reports the club are willing to pay a significant amount of money just to get rid of the player.
Sanchez, who has started only eight Premier League games this season and scored just one goal, is currently being paid an annual salary of £26 million at Old Trafford.
But according to Mail Online, United are now prepared to pay half of his exorbitant wages – £250,000 in total – in a bid to move the player abroad so they can offer greater wage packages to incoming signings.
The best hope the club has of moving Sanchez will be a loan deal in time for next season, with a permanent transfer negotiated before the start of the 20/21 campaign.
Now 30 years old, the Chilean has failed to recapture his best runs of form at Barcelona and later Arsenal, the latter of which led to the transfer window tug-of-war between City and United for the player’s services last January.
His signing has been an unmitigated disaster for United, who now have half a million in weekly salary locked up for a player that is seemingly not in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s plans at all.
It is no wonder they are desperate to cut their losses and begin a long-overdue squad rebuild this summer.
