For the most part, you can predict the stragglers in this season’s UEFA Youth League.
Some teams from smaller footballing powers don’t have the same tools at their disposal as the likes of Manchester United, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain.
But there’s one name we didn’t expect to see down there…Bayern Munich.
The Germans’ under-19s have just one point from four games and are bottom of a group containing the youth sides of Champions League opponents Arsenal, Olympiacos and Dinamo Zagreb.
Only three other teams are winless after the same number of matches: Astana, BATE Borisov and Maccabi Tel-Aviv.
Even Zenit, who suffered a 6-0 loss to Lyon in their fourth game, have three points on the board.
Perhaps the future isn’t so bright for a youth set-up that has produced the likes of Muller, Alaba, Kroos, Lahm, Hargreaves, Hamann, Beckenbauer…ok, maybe they’ll be fine.
