Jose Mourinho: Football was ‘in my blood’ from the day I was born

“A ball can be a volcano of something incredible”

For most of his managerial career, Jose Mourinho has been viewed as something of an outsider in the world of football. He did not play to a high level, unlike many of his contemporaries, and as such was viewed as having a different, perhaps even less pure, view of the game.

This has played out over a number of years, in Jose’s style, which rightfully is described more as a pragmatic approach, rather than one based on any codified set of tactical beliefs.

But, the perception of Jose as something disconnected, is not altogether fair.

Discussing his introduction to football, Mourinho tells MasterCard that it was ‘in his blood’ from the day he was born; “A ball can be the volcano of something incredible. My father was a football player and I was born on a match day, my father and his teammates left the team hotel to come and see me”.
