Smalling is reportedly willing to take a pay cut to make the move happen

AS Roma have submitted a new bid for Manchester United’s Chris Smalling, according to reports in Italy.

Smalling has returned to Manchester following his successful loan spell at the Serie A club and is understood to be keen to join Roma on a permanent deal and supposedly willing to lower his wage demands to make it happen.

Italian sports newspaper Gazetta dello Sport are reporting that Roma have offered Manchester United an initial €3 million loan fee with a clause that would see the centre-back join permanently next summer for a fee of €14 million.

Smalling made a total of 37 appearances for the Giallorossi last season and established himself as one of the best central defenders in the league, making it into WhoScored’s team of the season with an average performance rating of 7/10.

Despite his success in Rome, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer appears to have no plans for the 30 year old and is keen to move him on.
