Ajax defender Daley Blind has collapsed during a pre-season friendly with Hertha Berlin.

The 30-year-old is said to have been walking on the pitch when he feel to the floor with no player near, with some reporting a loud scream.

Blind, who played for Manchester United from 2014 to 2018, was diagnosed with in December of last year after experiencing dizziness during a Champions League tie with Valencia.

He was subsequently fitted with an implantable cardioverter defibrillator (ICD) and was allowed to return to full training and competition.

After his collapse, Blind was able to leave the pitch of his own accord, and according to Ajax manager Erik ten Hag was feeling “okay”.

In a post-match interview, ten Hag said: “Daley Blind’s ICD (implantable cardioverter defibrillator) went off. He got subbed off straight away and he is feeling okay now, he is feeling fine. We will do research about this now.”

Blind returned to Ajax after four years with Man Utd in 2018, and has played more than 50 league games for the club since returning.

He was part of their 2018/19 team which was mere seconds away from reaching the Champions League final, before a late goal from Lucas Moura put opponents Spurs through.
