The highly rated youngster drew criticism from a small minority of fans for his error on Thursday
Liverpool’s Neco Williams has blacked out his Twitter account after receiving abuse for an error in his side’s 7-2 win over Lincoln on Thursday night.
The highly rated full-back, already a full Welsh international at just 19, lost possession shortly before Lincoln scored their first goal of the Carabao Cup encounter. According to reports, the teenager received abuse from a small minority of Liverpool supporters for the mistake – even though Jurgen Klopp’s side ran out comfortable winners. This, it is assumed, is what prompted him to black out his social media accounts.
Many Liverpool fans were quick to support the young full-back after his profile and header pictures were changed to all black after full-time at the LNER Stadium. Empire of the Kop was one of several prominent Liverpool accounts to take aim at those who had been unnecessarily critical of the teenager’s performance.
This isn't funny. If you've played a part in this teenager thinking he has to black out his social media, you should be embarrassed. https://t.co/DU4mMNP7NL

Williams is held in high regard by Klopp after progressing through Liverpool’s youth ranks. He is already seen as an adequate deputy to first-choice right-back Trent Alexander-Arnold at Anfield.
Ryan Giggs is also an admirer, giving him his first call-up to the Welsh senior team for the international break at the start of this month. He repaid his faith by scoring a 94th-minute winner in the game against Bulgaria, ensuring the Welsh team secured top spot in their Nations League group.
Liverpool have started the defence of their Premier League title with two wins over Leeds United and Chelsea. They play their third fixture of the new campaign on Monday night, when Arsenal visit Anfield.
