A salty day for Jose Mourinho
Jose Mourinho had a lot to be annoyed about after his Tottenham Hotspur side conceded a late penalty against Newcastle United on Sunday on their way to a 1-1 draw at home.
That penalty, awarded after an Andy Carroll header hit Eric Dier’s arm from point blank range, prompted a furious reaction on social media, and from Jose’s assistant manager Jose Sacramento at the end of the game.
Asked about his reaction to that sending off, Mourinho said: “At some clubs, even after the last whistle, it’s possible for something important to happen, but for us I knew that after the last whistle it was over.”

This was, of course, a reference to the decision on Saturday to award Manchester United a penalty for handball after the final whistle had blown at the of the Red Devils’ Premier League match away to Brighton on Saturday.
Awarded for a handball by striker Neal Maupay, the penalty was dispatched by United midfielder Bruno Fernandes before the referee once again blew the final whistle.
The little dig was Jose’s second of the day aimed at Manchester United, after he remarked on the number of penalties awarded to his former team in recent games.
