Cavani flew in from Paris on Sunday
Manchester United topped off their disappointing transfer window with two deadline day arrivals in Alex Telles and Edinson Cavani on Monday.
Grave concerns still persist after a humiliating 6-1 defeat at the hands of Tottenham on Sunday but two arrivals of proven quality will go some way to cushioning the blow for United fans, who have grown increasingly frustrated with the club’s inability to land their top targets.
But just in case United fans were getting too excited about Cavani, here is some news to bring them back down to earth – he won’t be able to play for the Red Devils for at least two weeks, due to coronavirus restrictions, according to PA.
Having flown over from France to sign for United, the Uruguayan is obliged to quarantine for 14 days. This means he will miss United’s first game back after the international break against Newcastle United on October 17th.
He would have had a big chance of starting that game too, with Anthony Martial suspended after his red card against Tottenham for foul play against Erik Lamela.
Cavani won’t be able to train with his new teammates until the week commencing October 19th, meaning his first game for the Red Devils could well be away against his old club, Paris Saint-Germain, in the Champions League group stage.
That game takes place on October 20th, at which point it’s unlikely that Cavani will be fit enough to start, but he could come off the bench and will be desperate to make an impact.
Reports suggest one of the main reasons the 33-year-old chose to join United was to play against his old club who, in his mind, let him go in an undignified manner, as his contract expired midway through the Covid-induced hiatus from football.
