“It will live with me forever”
Conor Coady was as shocked as anyone on Thursday night after he scored his first ever goal for England during a friendly match against Wales at Wembley Stadium.
Gareth Southgate’s side claimed a 3-0 victory over Ryan Giggs’ team after what will be deemed a positive if peculiar night for the Three Lions.
Southgate’s choice to play three at the back appeared ill-founded at times, especially as it often looked more like a back five as Wales controlled possession and the midfield early on.
Debutante Dominic Calvert-Lewin claimed his first England goal with the opener, before Wolves captain and famously low scoring and shooting defender Conor Coady got on the end of a Kieran Trippier shot to score England’s second and his first goal for his country.
His celebration was a joy to watch – full of disbelief and pure happiness, and his post-match interview was just as wholesome.
Coady could barely contain his delight as he explained what it meant to score for England.
"It will live with me forever – I think it will be on repeat in my house for my kids… everything about playing here for England at Wembley is just sensational and it's a night I'll never, ever forget."

“I’m still in shock to be honest, it’ll live with me forever. It’s an amazing night for me. It’s just an incredible night honestly,” the Wolves captain told ITV.
“I can’t explain it. To play with these players is incredible for me, the feeling of it and everything about playing at Wembley for England – I’ll never forget it.
“You want to come and impress, everyone does, but I want to help whenever I’m called upon. I will make sure I’m ready and I’ll give 110 per cent every time I play for my country.”
