RIP Jeremy

Mason Greenwood opened the scoring for Manchester United last night in their 5-0 thrashing of RB Leipzig. There was a hint of offside but the teenager’s goal stood and the floodgates opened.

Man of the moment Marcus Rashford then came on and scored a 20 minute hat-trick, allowing Anthony Martial to take a penalty while on two goals himself. It was one of the best nights of Ole Gunnar Solksjaer’s reign, but an emotional one for Mason Greenwood.

The 18-year-old celebrated his goal by sliding on his knees and pointing to the heavens, later revealing on Instagram that he was dedicating his goal to the late Jeremy Wisten, a former Manchester City academy player who tragically died last week at the age of 17.

“That one was for you bro. RIP Jeremy Wisten,” Greenwood wrote on Instagram.

News of Wisten’s death broke on Sunday, with City paying tribute via their social media channels.

“The Manchester City family are saddened to learn of the passing of former Academy player Jeremy Wisten,” the club said.

“We send our deepest condolences to his friends and family. Our thoughts are with you at this difficult time.”
