If you’re not following José Mourinho on Instagram, why not? Do it now. Go on, I’ll wait for you.
Football managers tend to steer clear of social media for obvious reasons but Mourinho has bucked that trend with his recent dive into the world of Instagram. The only way I can describe his account is a haven of passive aggression, sassy digs and beautifully mundane photography.
His recent posts to have made waves include a shot of him eating popcorn while watching something on a tablet on an aeroplane, which immediately became a meme; a thousand mile stare into the abyss after a defeat away in Europe, and the most ‘yer da’ post ever, as he bemoaned his players all being glued to their phones after a game.
And in his latest post, the Tottenham manager has hit out at the international break in sarcastic, sassy fashion.
“Amazing week of football,” he said.
“Great emotions in the national team matches, superb friendlies and total safety.
“Covid test results after matches been played, randomers running on the pitch while team sessions are taking place and much more.
“After another training session with only 6 players, it is now time to take care of myself.”

Mourinho is fair in his assessment of the unnecessary chaos caused by the international break, as many others have highlighted over the past few days. In the midst of a national ‘lockdown’ with the coronavirus still rampant, it does seem unwise to proceed with so many international fixtures.
It’s also a convenient excuse for Mourinho, should he need it, ahead of Tottenham’s fixture against Manchester City next weekend.
Spurs defender Matt Doherty has tested positive for COVID-19, the FA of Ireland have confirmed, meaning Mourinho will be without his first choice right-back for the City game.
In fairness to Mourinho, I’d be fuming if I had to put Serge Aurier up against Raheem Sterling too.
