Footage of the incident was widely shared on social media last week but was unnoticed by the match referee
Preston North End full-back Darnell Fisher has received a three-game ban after he appeared to grab the genitalia of Sheffield Wednesday’s Callum Peterson.
A statement from Preston has confirmed the defender has been handed a three-match suspension after a charge for violent conduct was proven by an independent FA Commission.
Match referee David Webb said he did not see the incident, which took place during the second half of a Championship game last Saturday, but it was picked up by cameras and quickly circulated on social media.
The Preston statement explains that the club and Fisher had presented evidence to The FA ‘of many previous occurrences within the game where no charge had been brought and an analysis of the violent conduct description within the Laws of the Game’. Despite this, a three-man panel decided the charge was proven.
The statement added: ‘As part of the club’s submission, it also explained that it had dealt with the matter internally, including making it absolutely clear to the player that he had a responsibility to the public perception of the game and to his club and that a repeat of the incident would not be tolerated.’
Fisher will now miss games against Watford, Bournemouth and Wycombe Wanderers.
