Star Wars: Kenobi to film in Boston, Lincolnshire not Boston, Massachusetts, and Americans are confused

Wil Jones

Lincolnshire is far more glamorous than New England

Last week it was revealed that the long-awaited Star Wars TV show focusing on Obi-Wan Kenobi will start filming next month, in Boston and London.

Many Star Wars fans thought that meant Boston, Massachusetts, in the USA – but it now turns out it was Boston, Lincolnshire, in England.

A listing from the Film & Television Industry Alliance on productionlist.com, posted last week, stated that the show would film in London, England and Boston, Massachusetts on January 4th, 2021.

It would seem that someone on Production List made an error though, as that has now been changed to “Boston, England, United Kingdom”.

Boston (USA) is the capital of Massachusetts, and the 24th most populous city in the country. It is famous for its clam chowder and giving the world Mark Wahlberg.

The original announcement provoked plenty of jokes from Americans on social media based around Massachusetts stereotypes.

The news that it will actually be in England has put an end to those, however.

The most living famous son of Boston, England, is probably Robert Webb, of Peep Show fame, so maybe he can get a cameo in the show?

Ewan McGregor will be reprising his role as Obi-Wan Kenobi. McGregor played him in the prequel trilogy, with Alec Guinness having been the older Kenobi in the original films.

A spin-off Obi-Wan Kenobi movie had long been rumoured, but following the failure of Solo: A Star Wars Story and the success of The Mandolorian, it seems Disney has decided to go down the Disney+ route with the project instead.
