Disgusting

Manchester United defender Axel Tuanzebe was subjected to racist abuse after his team’s loss to Sheffield United on Wednesday night.

The abuse he received forced him to remove a post from Instagram.

Tuanzebe was one of many United players at fault for Sheffield United’s winning goal, as the whole back line stood still, allowing the visitors to score almost uncontested. Olive Burke’s shot was deflected off Tuanzebe’s leg and went in off the bar.

It was a lacklustre performance from the whole team but the reaction on social media that followed was typically toxic, as the young defender was bombarbded with racist abuse.

On Instagram, the comment section below his post was flooded with monkey emojis and other racist symbols.

After the abuse came to light, some fans sought out his previous post and tried to reassure the defender that he still has a lot of support.

But the damage has been done, and sadly this is just the most recent example of football fans racially abusing their own players after a disappointing performance.
