Netflix is down: Streaming service has crashed across the United Kingdom

There were thousands of complaints on social media about the outage

Netflix has gone down across the United Kingdom, leaving thousands of people staring blankly at their own faces in the cold reflection in their television.

According to the outage website DownDetector, there were as many as 1,600 complaints on social media by 10.40am on Wednesday, with the majority of issues reported to be an inability to connect to the company’s website and streaming being unavailable.

No reason for the outage has yet been revealed, but this writer suspects the weight of millions of people working from home with the TV constantly streaming in the background might have something to do with it. On the other hand, I don’t really know how technology works.

Netflix announced last month increased their price for a standard subscription from £8.99 to £9.99 a month. The basic plan remains £5.99.

The streaming service’s premium account will now cost between £11.99 and £13.99.

Earlier this week, the streaming platform was criticised by pop star Taylor Swift due to a joke made on their new show, Ginny & Georgia.

In an episode, a character criticises another for going “through men faster than Taylor Swift”.

The singer responded by calling the joke “lazy” and “deeply sexist”, tweeting: “Hey Ginny & Georgia, 2010 called and it wants its lazy, deeply sexist joke back. How about we stop degrading hard working women by defining this horse shit as FuNnY. Also, Netflix after Miss Americana this outfit doesn’t look cute on you.”
