Richards walked right into this one
Remember that time Roy Keane nearly made Jamie Redknapp cry a bit over an argument over Tottenham players? Feels like months ago, doesn’t it? In actual fact, it was only a week ago. Such is this incessant flow of televised football, our understanding of the passage of time has been warped.
Amongst other names in Spurs’ current side, Keane took issue with Sergio Reguilón, claiming that, had he really been all that, his old club Real Madrid would never have sanctioned his move to England in the first place.
Back in the studio alongside Micah Richards on Sunday, the former Manchester United skipper was again forced to defend his assessment of the Spaniard.
“I heard Roy’s comments last week and I don’t know if he’s watched him a lot,” Richards began. “He’s a top quality full-back.”
After a brief interruption from Graeme Souness, Keane fired back: “You know he was on loan last year [at Sevilla]? He’s that good that he was sent out on loan and then sent to Tottenham.”
Richards, walking straight into it, then points out how Manchester City had loaned him out to Fiorentina in 2014.
“Well I went on loan to Fiorentina, I was alright.”
And then, perfectly in unison, Keane and Souness reply: “Exactly.”
