What happened in Glasgow yesterday was incredible
It’s rare that a news story will make you well up with positive emotion these days, but this was a reminder that most people are good. Especially people from Glasgow.
In protest against a deportation raid that took place during Eid al-Fitr, local surrounded an immigration enforcement van, and were successful in halting the deportation of two men, as the authorities were left with no option but to release them in order to disperse the crowd.
Peaceful protest works.
That this is necessary is of course a sad reminder of the UK’s cruel policy towards refugees and immigrants more generally. But one small victory against the hostile environment is worth celebrating. Most people are good. Just not Priti Patel.
