He will now likely miss the rest of Scotland’s campaign.
Scottish midfielder Billy Gilmour has tested positive for Covid-19, the Scottish national team have announced.
The news comes just days after the youngster played a starring role in his side’s 0-0 draw against England at Wembley on Saturday night. he will now have to isolate for 10 days and will miss Scotland’s must-win game against Croatia on Tuesday.
In a statement, the national side said: “The Scottish FA can confirm that a member of the Scotland National Team playing squad, Billy Gilmour, has tested positive for COVID-19.
“Having liaised with Public Health England since the positive test was recorded, Billy will now self-isolate for 10 days and therefore miss tomorrow’s UEFA EURO 2020 Group D match against Croatia at Hampden.”

On Saturday, the Chelsea player made his first start for Scotland, putting in a man-of-the-match performance against England at Wembley. The 20-year-old’s absence from their crunch game against Croatia is a hammer blow for Scotland.
They go into their game against Croatia at Hampden Park knowing that anything other than a win would see them knocked out of the tournament. However if they were to pick up the three points, they would have a good chance of making it out of the group.
Before the tournament, John Fleck tested positive for Covid as well along with six close contacts. It will remain to be seen whether Gilmour’s positive test leads to an outbreak in the squad.
Fleck and all six contacts returned in time for the tournament.
Without wanting to make too bold a prediction about Scotland’s chances at this tournament, it seems likely that Gilmour’s 10 day isolation will see him miss the remainder of the tournament for the Scots.
They would need to make the last eight of Euro 2020 to still be involved in the tournament by the time his isolation period is over.
