Chelsea suffer another loss – this time not on the pitch

Simon Lloyd

Chelsea supporters have become accustomed to hearing about losses this year, but the latest news is not related to their on-field performances.

The reigning champions made a loss of £23.2m during their title-winning season, it has been announced.

The Blues have unveiled their financial results up to June 30 of this year but reported that, despite their losses, they are within Financial Fair Play limits.

Revenues at the club were marginally down from last season’s figure of £319.8m to £314.3m.

The decline in revenue is blamed on the team’s last 16 exit from the Champions League, having reached the semi finals the previous year.

With a new shirt sponsorship secured from the start of this season, the club can expect their revenues to grow again this season – although failure to secure a Champions League berth could spell trouble for their future figures.
