Matt Hancock ‘told wife he was leaving night before affair became public’

According to sources, the now-former health secretary Matt Hancock reportedly separated from the night before the news of his affair broke on the front pages.

Hancock is believed to have told his wife, Martha, that their 15-year marriage was “over” on Thursday evening after having learned that pictures of him kissing his close, personal aide were about to be released. He is also believed to have woke up his child to break the news.

Hancock announced his ‘resignation’ from the cabinet office in a video address on Saturday, following pressure from MPS and public outrage over flagrantly disobeying the rules around coronavirus and contact with others – the same measure that he and his department have imposed upon the public over the last 14 months.

Downing Street announced former home secretary and chancellor, Sajid Javid, will take Hancock’s place as he now looks set to start a new life and “set up a home” with Coladangelo. As reported in The Sunday Times, the news came as a huge shock to his wife, who considered their relationship “happy” and “stable”.

To add insult to injury, Mrs Hancock is also said to be battling Long Covid after having picked up the virus from her husband, who has clearly been doing anything but exercising the ‘hands, face, space’ mantra.

It is believed that a friend of the adulterous couple became suspicious of their “obvious chemistry” back in 2019, though the two are thought to have denied any suggestion of romance.

Confirmation of Hancock’s affair with Coladeangelo, who is also married with kids, came after images emerged of them in a passionate embrace in his ministerial office on May 6th. The images continue to circulate all over social media, with video footage now in the public domain too.

Additionally, the disgraced secretary is now set to face an inquiry over whether he broke the ministerial code by appointing his long-time friend, Mrs Coladangelo, as his aide in 2019 before giving her a non-executive director position.

Hancock met the mum-of-three – married to Oliver Tress, the founder of fashion brand, Oliver Bonas – when they were both studying at Oxford University – and clearly went on to maintain a close relationship with her.

It is said that Coladangelo accompanied Hancock to a meeting of G7 health ministers from June 3rd-4th, an event that involved attendees staying overnight.

It is unclear whether the PM was aware of this but, once again, as said in the Sunday Times piece: “He’s been puritan-in-chief in the government and now it turns out he’s a massive, lying hypocrite” – that has been apparent for some time, regardless of whether the affair went public or not.
