Harry Kane will join Manuel Neuer in wearing a rainbow coloured captain’s armband during England’s match against Germany on Tuesday night.
Neuer has been wearing an rainbow armband throughout the tournament, as a show of support for the LGBTQ+ community across the world, making an extra effort to get the flag on camera during one of his post-match interviews by repeatedly touching his face.

The FA have this afternoon announced that England captain Kane will do the same for the round of 16 tie between the two nations on Tuesday night at Wembley.
“Harry Kane will join Germany’s Manuel Neuer in wearing a rainbow captain’s armband for tomorrow’s game at Wembley Stadium,” a tweet from the official England account read, “to mark the end of Pride month, as the Three Lions stand in allyship with LGBTQ+ communities around the world.”

The rainbow flag has caused some ‘controversy’ over recent weeks during Euro 2020. With Budapest hosting a number of matches, and the Hungarian government’s violently anti-LGBTQ+ laws, players and fans have wanted to make a vocal stand against such oppression.
UEFA denied the city of Munich’s request to light up the Allianz arena with rainbow colours for their game against Hungary, citing that as a direct response to Hungary’s laws, it became ‘political’, but a decision was made on June 20 allowing Neuer to wear the armband with the same colours after it was assessed as a ‘team symbol for diversity, and thus for a good cause’.
